When it comes to think about environmentally move, most people are aware of the different options available to reduce their carbon footprint. By moving less by car, promoting public transport or cycling, you can enjoy the good weather to make its way to the office on foot and car pooling is useful when it is necessary to use a car.
Reduce ‘food miles’
There was also a real awareness in recent years of the importance of reducing ‘food miles’ and better informed consumers make a special effort to buy local products.

What is still missing among individuals, it is an awareness of waste CO2 from road freight transport, often seen as a problem to be solved at the industrial level. But when you consider that 74% of French companies TRM occupy less than 5 employees, we realize a significant portion of trips made in this area is carried out by TPE (location guy with driver, craftsman carrier) making deliveries for individuals.
When buying furniture online, we moved we do well and that uses a green site as consoRecup to get rid of bulky that is no longer needed, we often need engage the services of a carrier like this.
The problem here is that not only the consumption of fossil when transporting these objects fuels, but the fact that many of these vehicles run empty on the return trip after making a delivery. According to the European Environment Agency :
- One third of CO2 emissions in Europe comes from freight transport by road
- So 420 million tones of CO2 per year
- So more than the total carbon footprint of South Africa!
Promote clean fuels
Of course the long term solution will be to develop and promote clean alternative fuels, but in the meantime, there are steps we can take consumers to improve the environmental impact of transporting our own objects.
Making grouped transport
A very simple way to avoid wasting CO2 on empty trips is to organize your shipment or moving with a transportation company that makes groupings. This has not always been easy for individuals, but the arrival of a new kind of online freight exchange designed small consumers has changed all that.
The Shiply website allows individuals to place ads for items they wish to send and receive quotes from carriers that have excess capacity on the same route. Shiply according to date, their system has saved more than 11.5 million tones of CO2.
So the next time you move, you buy a bulky object online, or you need to hire a carrier, enjoy the grouping to ensure that you are helping to reduce waste CO2 from vehicles. Not only the planet, but your wallet will thank you too.
