Why are flowers so important for us?

In life, humans tend to give significance to different objects, holidays or concepts for reasons that are pretty hard to define. Can anybody tell why we celebrate birthdays with so much solemnity and pricy gifts, for example? I do not think so. The situation is a bit similar with flowers: it is probably the best gifts to give to a girlfriend or a mother, and even secretaries receive flowers very often when they are celebrated in that special week of the year. Let’s study a bit this phenomenon in the following article.

Occasions where flowers are used
For birthdays, a lot of people will use flowers to show their appreciation to someone. Some specialists say that mixed flowers are preferred in such situations (except if you want to show your feelings to someone!). Flowers are also used when someone is sick in order to express to that person your best wishes of healing. For marriage, of course, a lot of flowers will be used: there will be the wedding bouquet, of course, but people often use them for the whole decoration of the room!
The occasions do not stop here, though. You might seriously get in trouble if you decide not to offer roses to your girlfriend for Valentine’s Day. Flowers are also extremely important in most cultures when Mother’s day arrives. Good luck going to a Montreal florist at the last minute to try and buy flowers, though, as they are extremely busy during these days. Yellow roses are often used as a way to apologize to a friend. Sympathies can be offered to someone who lost a loved one through white flowers, for example. White roses can finally be sent on friendship day.
Why?
There are many reasons as to WHY people like to receive flowers. First of all, their flagrance is usually very nice and makes someone feel good. These flowers are also very beautiful: for a few days, they can enhance the look of a room. There is also a social aspect to it: other people noticing that someone gave you flowers will probably make you feel proud in a certain sense. Of course, when there is a special signification attached to the reason you received flowers, they will make you feel very good emotions.
Flowers on graves… sometimes
You probably noticed while going to a cemetery that many tombstones will be adorned by flowers, which is a way to tell to somebody who left this world that you still think about him or her. However, not all cemeteries have flowers. Jewish traditions, however, do not approve the use of flowers on Jewish graves. Rabbi Spira, which was very influential in this community, said that poor and rich people must be buried alike, and that flowers could not be afforded by everybody. Placing flowers for the dead is also considered a waste since they will serve to no use, except for being beautiful. The main reason is rather simple: since it is a non-Jew practice, in must not be followed by the Jew community.
As you can see, the usage of flowers may vary a lot from one community to another!
