Why get a condo in Laval?

Posted on février 15, 2014 by

Montreal is becoming more and more expensive each year and this trend will probably not shift downwards. People looking to buy a property in the surroundings either have to be very rich or they need to severely restrict their lifestyle in order to be able to make a down payment and keep their house or condominium after. To avoid this big issue, citizens of Montreal keep looking in surrounding cities for a cheaper and still attractive alternative to the metropolitan lifestyle.

Let’s say Laval isn’t really gifted when it comes to reputation. The previous mayors got crushed by press coverage and shady activities and there are a lot of stereotypes going around about Laval inhabitants. However, this does not mean that it is a city to ban from your specter of choice when you think about buying a condominium! In this article, we’ll give you a few reasons why this city can be the right place for you.

Many things to do in Laval

If you’re looking to keep an active lifestyle, you might not want to go too far from Montreal’s Island. Brossard and Blainville are not exactly exciting places to be in either, except if you have a car and are willing to be constantly driving 30 minutes to be able to do something fun!

On Laval’s website, you’ll find out that there are a lot of festivals, cultural activities, parks and places to do sports. Everything is not well served by common transportation, which still means you need to own a car, but if you can afford it you’ll have tons of fun.

A few cool real estate projects going on

When you buy a condominium, for the price you way, you’ll probably be hoping to get a great property. If you look around, you will find out quite a few interesting condominium projects in Laval. Concept D4B, for example, has just finished building its 4-stores project (around January 2014) and there are still units to sell on all floors. If you’re looking to buy something in the 200k range and you have some consideration for ecological construction, it might be the right place for you!

A vibrant environment for young sportsmen

We have already mentioned that sports were a pretty good part of Laval’s lifestyle but we have to underline once again that there is a great community working to organize competitions and help youth develop their sporting skills. Sports Laval, for example, offers trainings for officials and trainers as well as coordinate the application of the city for potential sporting competitions (such as Jeux du Quebec, which are happening next in Drummondville).

The association also gives a lot of useful information on its website regarding other institutions that contribute to the lifestyle of our students. It covers Nez Rouge, for example, which helps people who drink during parties to get their car back home instead of driving after drinking.

The main problem: a language barrier

Even though Laval is close to Montreal, immigrants and English minorities in the province must understand that Laval, even though it hosts a small proportion of anglophones, is not exactly the best place to live if you do not speak French. All events are presented in that language and you might have small issues when being served in shops and restaurants if you do not know anything about French. Therefore, it might be worth it to invest some efforts in developing your language skills, otherwise you’ll have a hard time fully enjoying the possibilities of Laval!

We decided on purpose not to discuss about Laval’s stereotypes because most of them are false and completely stupid. If you decide to give any interests to these criticisms, you should be able to find some info quite easily on the web!
